Everyone’s journey to finding and living their purpose is unique, and mine has been shaped by a deep personal experience.
Years ago, as a recovering workaholic and people pleaser, I reached a breaking point. After ignoring my self-care for far too long, my body finally demanded attention. I had been living with chronic pain for years, and in a moment of desperation, I turned to hypnotherapy—not knowing if it would even help.
The results were life changing. Hypnosis became a vital part of my multidisciplinary approach to managing my chronic pain. Without it, I might still be on disability today. While I don’t claim that hypnosis replaces medical care, medications, or physical therapy, I believe it can be a powerful complementary tool in the journey to wellness.
I believe in the power of the mind. As Robert Sapolsky said, “If stress makes you sick, then the opposite must be true: If you are less stressed, you must be healthier.”. Reducing stress could have a positive impact on health, suggesting a direct relationship between stress levels and overall well-being.
I offer a variety of techniques, including relaxation hypnosis and guided meditation, designed to support your parasympathetic nervous system and help you achieve a state of deep relaxation. My goal is to help you manage stress, improve your health, and live a more balanced life.
I am certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists and bring over three years of coaching experience to my practice. My passion lies in helping others break free from self-limiting beliefs and emotional barriers that hinder personal growth. Through tailored hypnosis sessions, I offer a platform for deep self-exploration and healing.
My mission is simple: to share the incredible gift that was given to me. If I can help others find their path to healing, I know I am living my purpose.

Every journey begins with understanding. We’ll discuss your goals and identify any subconscious blocks holding you back from living the life you desire. This is your time to share your concerns so we can create a tailored hypnosis plan to meet your needs.
Example Concerns We Address:
Overcoming stress from toxic relationships
Managing symptoms of anxiety and stress
Tackling self-limiting beliefs
The hypnosis process begins with induction, a phase where we help you achieve a state of deep relaxation. You will remain fully aware and in control while your body and mind move into a focused, calm state. These steps quiet the conscious mind and prepares your subconscious to receive positive suggestions. Our process involves soothing instructions, visualization, and grounding techniques to ensure you feel safe and comfortable.
Induction Techniques We Use:
Progressive Muscle Relaxation: Gently easing tension from your body, helping you relax completely
Guided Breathing Exercises: Using breath control to reduce anxiety and ground you in the moment
Visualization: Creating mental images of calm, serene environments to enhance focus and relaxation
After induction, we guide you into a deeper state of hypnosis, where your subconscious mind becomes more open to change. This is where we focus on the root of your challenges, whether it's anxiety, stress, or self-limiting beliefs. In this relaxed state, we can begin the process of reprogramming negative patterns and replacing them with empowering beliefs and behaviors.
What We Address in the Deepening Phase:
Stress Reduction: Reducing the dominance of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and activating the parasympathetic nervous system for calm and recovery.
Confidence Building: Rewriting negative self-perceptions with positive affirmations, boosting your self-esteem.
Emotional Healing: Addressing unresolved emotions allowing you to heal and move forward.
During this phase, we introduce carefully crafted suggestions designed to help you achieve your goals. Whether it’s letting go of the past, overcoming anxiety, improving sleep, or building self-confidence, these suggestions are personalized to resonate with your unique challenges. Since your subconscious mind is more receptive during hypnosis, these positive suggestions can take root and initiate lasting change.
Key Areas We Focus On:
Overcoming Self-Limiting Beliefs: Hypnosis can help challenge and eliminate beliefs like "I'm not good enough" or "I’ll never succeed".
Stress and Anxiety Management: Promoting a sense of calm and control in situations that typically cause stress or overwhelm.
Relationship and Family Healing: Hypnosis can help release the emotional burden of toxic relationships and empower you to set healthier boundaries.
After the therapeutic suggestions have been made, we gradually guide you back to full awareness. Most clients report feeling deeply relaxed, refreshed, and rejuvenated after a session. You’ll leave with a greater sense of clarity and calm, and over time, you’ll start to see the positive shifts in your behavior and mindset. Each session builds upon the last, helping you move closer to your personal goals.
Positive Changes You’ll Experience:
Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem: Feel empowered to take on new challenges and pursue your goals without fear.
Reduced Anxiety and Stress: Enjoy greater emotional balance and resilience, even in stressful situations.
Healing and Moving Forward: Let go of past hurts and toxic relationships that are holding you back, making room for healthier connections and growth

I would like thank Tanya for my recent hypnosis session. I was brand new to this process, so I went in a little unsure and nervous. But, Tanya made it all so easy. Her calm and soothing voice and demeanour helped to relax me and make me feel safe. The entire process took about an hour, but it felt like 15 minutes, and at the end I was incredibly relaxed and calm, feeling as if I had just awoken from a nap. The results of the hypnosis were subtle at first, but within a week, I noticed positive results proving that what she had done had worked. After this experience, I am excited to book my next session, and have already
referred both of my daughters! If you are looking for a hypnotic experience with a caring professional, then Tanya Perry is the person for you. Thank you again Tanya for introducing me to this,

Tanya made me feel very warm and welcomed. We started out with a consultation/intake. There were a series of questions that really set the tone for the experience. I felt myself beginning to get emotional as I was giving myself permission to be vulnerable and to receive. Tanya was super patient and understanding with my responses and really took her time to be thorough. For the treatment portion, we went through an exercise to stimulate and engage my senses. It was so much fun! I was able to experience the exercise with all of my senses being guided by Tanya. When we proceeded with the session, I was comfortable and not nervous. The experience was a beautiful one and I didn’t want it to end. I felt like I had an astral projection. I was alert but felt like I was having an out of body experience. We worked on confidence, and not only did we explore what was holding me back, we reaffirmed my best-case scenario. Thank you, Tanya, for an amazing experience.
Thanks again ladies for an amazing first-time experience. It was a delight for my senses and healing for my soul!

Background: Dr. David Spiegel is a psychiatrist and medical director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Contributions: Dr. Spiegel is a leading expert in the clinical use of hypnosis, particularly in the treatment of stress, anxiety, and pain. He has conducted extensive research on the neurophysiological effects of hypnosis and its ability to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. His work demonstrates how hypnosis can alter brain activity and promote relaxation and healing.
"Hypnosis provides a powerful means of enabling people to enter a state of focused attention and relaxation, which can help them shift from the 'fight or flight' mode of the sympathetic nervous system to the 'rest and digest' mode of the parasympathetic nervous system. This shift is critical for reducing stress and promoting healing."
Dr. Peter Gruzelier
Background: Dr. Peter Gruzelier is a psychologist and professor at Imperial College London.
Contributions: Dr. Gruzelier has conducted research on the effects of hypnosis on autonomic nervous system function, including its ability to induce a parasympathetic response. His studies highlight the role of hypnosis in enhancing relaxation, reducing stress, and improving overall autonomic balance.
"Hypnosis has been shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, inducing a state of deep relaxation that counteracts the effects of stress and anxiety. This parasympathetic activation is crucial for restorative processes in the body."
Dr. Michael Yapko
Background: Dr. Michael Yapko is a clinical psychologist known for his work in the treatment of depression and anxiety using hypnosis.
Contributions: Dr. Yapko advocates for the use of hypnosis as a tool to manage stress and anxiety, conditions that often involve an overactive sympathetic nervous system. He emphasizes hypnosis's ability to promote relaxation and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, aiding in emotional regulation and recovery.
"Hypnosis is a natural method of accessing the body’s relaxation response, helping to shift the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance. This shift is essential for managing anxiety and stress, leading to better emotional and physical health."
Dr. Herbert Benson
Background: Dr. Herbert Benson is a cardiologist and founder of the Mind/Body Medical Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Contributions: Although not exclusively focused on hypnosis, Dr. Benson is renowned for his research on the "relaxation response," a state similar to that induced by hypnosis. His work has shown that practices like hypnosis can effectively shift the body from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance, leading to significant health benefits.
"The relaxation response is the opposite of the fight-or-flight response. Hypnosis is one way to evoke the relaxation response, engaging the parasympathetic nervous system to lower stress and support bodily functions such as digestion and recovery."
"Practices that engage the parasympathetic nervous system, like hypnosis, are essential for health and well-being in our stress-filled modern lives."
Dr. Ernest Rossi

"Everyone has an innate ability to be hypnotized, and in many cases, people are already using that ability in their everyday life without even realizing it."
"Hypnosis is a state of concentrated attention, increased receptivity to suggestion, and deep relaxation."
"In a therapeutic setting, the role of the hypnotist is to help the patient become more aware of their own internal resources and potential for change."
"The success of hypnosis is directly related to the ability of the therapist to understand and work with the individual’s unique experiences and responses."
Definition: Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, often accompanied by deep relaxation. It's a natural state of mind that people can enter intentionally or unintentionally (e.g., daydreaming or getting lost in a book).
Purpose: Hypnosis can be used for various purposes, such as entertainment (stage hypnosis), self-improvement (self-hypnosis), or to facilitate relaxation and focus.
Control: The person in a hypnotic state is still in control and can reject suggestions that go against their will or morals.
Uses: Hypnosis on its own is often used for relaxation, reducing stress, or entertainment, but it doesn’t inherently involve any therapeutic element.
Definition: Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic application of hypnosis. It involves a trained hypnotherapist guiding the client into a state of hypnosis and using this state to address specific psychological or physical issues.
Purpose: The primary purpose of hypnotherapy is to help individuals make positive changes in their lives, such as overcoming addictions, reducing anxiety, managing pain, or altering negative behaviors.
Process: During hypnotherapy, the therapist may use techniques like suggestion, visualization, or regression to help the client work through their issues. It's a collaborative process between the therapist and the client.
Uses: Hypnotherapy is used for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, phobias, pain management, weight loss, smoking cessation, and more. It’s a recognized form of therapy when performed by a qualified professional.
Intent and Application: Hypnosis can be used for various purposes, including entertainment or relaxation, without any therapeutic intent. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, specifically involves the use of hypnosis for therapeutic goals.
Training and Certification: While hypnosis can be performed by anyone, hypnotherapy should be conducted by a trained and certified professional who has a background and a degree in therapy or counseling.
In summary, while hypnosis is the state or technique, hypnotherapy is the structured therapeutic process that uses hypnosis to achieve specific health or psychological outcomes.
The sympathetic nervous system is like your body’s emergency response team. It prepares you to face a threat or challenge by triggering the "fight or flight" response. When activated, the sympathetic nervous system:
Increases Heart Rate: Your heart beats faster to pump more blood to your muscles, preparing you for action.
Raises Blood Pressure: Blood vessels constrict, which raises blood pressure and directs blood flow to vital organs and muscles.
Expands Air Passages: Your airways open up to allow more oxygen into your lungs, helping you breathe more efficiently.
Releases Energy Stores: Your body releases glucose (sugar) from energy stores to provide quick energy for your muscles.
Dilates Pupils: Your pupils widen to improve vision, helping you better see potential threats.
This response is essential for survival, allowing you to react quickly in dangerous situations. However, when the sympathetic nervous system is overactive—such as during chronic stress—it can lead to health issues like hypertension, anxiety, and sleep problems.
On the other side of the spectrum is the parasympathetic nervous system, which acts as a counterbalance to the sympathetic nervous system. Often referred to as the "rest and digest" system, the parasympathetic nervous system helps your body relax and recover after stress. When activated, it:
Slows Down Heart Rate: Your heart rate decreases, allowing your body to conserve energy and recover.
Lowers Blood Pressure: Blood vessels relax, reducing blood pressure and promoting a state of calm.
Stimulates Digestion: Your digestive system becomes more active, allowing your body to process food and absorb nutrients.
Promotes Relaxation: Overall muscle tension decreases, and your body enters a state of deep relaxation.
Supports Healing: The parasympathetic nervous system enhances your body’s ability to heal and repair itself, especially during sleep.
Activating the parasympathetic nervous system is essential for maintaining long-term health and well-being. Practices like deep breathing, meditation, and mindfulness can help stimulate this system, promoting relaxation and stress relief.
Both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are crucial for your health. The key is balance—your body needs to be able to shift between these states as needed. In today’s fast-paced world, many people experience an overactive sympathetic nervous system due to chronic stress. This is why it’s important to regularly engage in activities that activate the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to restore balance and promote overall well-being.
At Chrysalis Hypnosis and Wellness, we offer a variety of techniques, including relaxation hypnosis and guided meditation, designed to support your parasympathetic nervous system and help you achieve a state of deep relaxation. Our goal is to help you manage stress, improve your health, and live a more balanced life.
Contact us today to learn more about how our services can help you find harmony between your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, leading to a healthier, more peaceful life.
Hypnosis can facilitate a shift from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and stress reduction. Here's how this process works:
Function: The SNS is responsible for the "fight or flight" response, preparing the body for action in response to stress or danger. It increases heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate while inhibiting non-essential functions like digestion.
Activation: When the SNS is active, the body is in a heightened state of alertness, often associated with stress, anxiety, or fear.
Function: The PNS is responsible for the "rest and digest" response, which helps the body conserve energy and promote relaxation, digestion, and recovery.
Activation: When the PNS is dominant, the body is in a state of calm, with decreased heart rate, lower blood pressure, and a focus on restorative processes.
Induction of Relaxation: Hypnosis typically involves deep relaxation techniques that help quiet the mind and body. During hypnosis, the individual enters a trance-like state, characterized by focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness.
Reduction of SNS Activity: As the body relaxes under hypnosis, the overactivity of the SNS decreases. This reduction in SNS activity leads to a decrease in stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol.
Activation of PNS: Simultaneously, the PNS becomes more active, promoting relaxation, slower heart rate, and deeper breathing. This shift allows the body to enter a state of calm and recovery.
Stress and Anxiety Management: Hypnosis is often used in therapeutic settings to manage stress, anxiety, and other conditions related to SNS overactivity. By encouraging the shift to PNS dominance, hypnosis helps in reducing the physiological and psychological symptoms of stress.
Improved Autonomic Balance: Regular practice of hypnosis or self-hypnosis can help improve the balance between the SNS and PNS, leading to better stress resilience and overall well-being.
Enhanced Relaxation Response: Over time, individuals may find it easier to access the relaxation response, even outside of hypnosis sessions, leading to more consistent PNS activation and reduced chronic stress.
In summary, hypnosis aids in shifting the body from a state dominated by the sympathetic nervous system (stress response) to one dominated by the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation response), which can have profound effects on both mental and physical health.
Neuromuscular Progressive Relaxation (NPR), also known as Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), is a relaxation technique that involves tensing and then slowly releasing different muscle groups to reduce physical and mental stress. While it's generally safe and effective for many people, there are certain situations and conditions where it might not be advisable to use NPR:
If you have any acute or chronic injuries, especially in the muscles or joints, tensing these areas could worsen the condition or cause pain.
For individuals with chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia, NPR might exacerbate symptoms rather than relieve them, as the process of tensing muscles could trigger pain or discomfort.
People with certain cardiovascular conditions, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart disease, should be cautious with NPR. The process of tensing muscles could momentarily increase blood pressure, which might be risky.
If you have a respiratory condition, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the breathing techniques associated with NPR might need to be modified, as deep breathing can sometimes lead to hyperventilation.
For some people with severe anxiety or panic disorders, the focus on bodily sensations during NPR can sometimes lead to heightened awareness of anxiety symptoms, potentially triggering a panic attack.
Pregnant individuals should consult with a healthcare provider before starting NPR, as certain positions or muscle tensing might not be safe during pregnancy.
In cases of severe psychiatric conditions, NPR might not be appropriate unless guided by a trained mental health professional.
In any of these cases, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before starting NPR or to seek alternative relaxation techniques that might be more appropriate for your specific situation.
